Hans Werner Poschauko

Erzherzog Johann Rosenkogel (Archduke Johann Rosenkogel, 1989)

Hans Werner Poschauko (born 1963, Graz, lives in Vienna) is an artist working in the media of painting, film, and performance. Since the late 1980s, he has been known for his surreal pictorial creations. This rondo represents the most celebrated historical figure of Styria, Archduke Johann (1782–1859), who still serves as a crucial focus for Styrian identity, among others because of his commitment to nature. Poschauko’s humorous depiction agrees with that point but resists any form of glorification.
