András Felvidéki

Obelisk (1982)

András Felvidéki (born 1946, Budapest, Hungary, lives in Budapest) is an illustrator, painter, and set designer. He was part of the artistic underground and close to various Neo-Avant-Garde groups in 1970s Hungary, for whose exhibitions he designed posters and catalog covers. Felvidéki also created distinctive posters for films such as Rocky (1976) and Star Wars (1977) with a grotesque aesthetic reminiscent of heavy metal subcultures. Since the 1980s, he has been creating eclectic paintings that sample and distort elements of classical architecture in a postmodern manner. Felvidéki teaches at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts, Budapest.
