In Austria, the “super-election year” 2024 reaches its climax with the national elections. Austrian playwright Thomas Köck attempts to capture the country’s shift to the right—increasingly from within the middle class—in his writing. For over a year, he has been recording relevant events in the Austrian political and media landscape, while also reflecting on his rural upbringing in a society characterized by classism and inequality of opportunity.
The author has long worked with director Marie Bues, who has been part of the artistic management team at Schauspielhaus Wien since the 2023/24 season. In this coproduction, actors from both ensembles appear on stage together in Graz and Vienna and shed light on Austria’s domestic political situation.
